project description
General renovation of the existing building and addition of stories in lightweight construction.
The architect´s office, Rudischer & Panzenböck, has put great care into maintaining the “floating” character of the main building. Large parts have been covered by P-R facades, the attached wooden box protrudes beyond the existing building. In order not to put any unnecessary weight onto the old building stock, a “spinal”-construction made out of steel has been designed, which is resting in four spots upon the ferroconcrete-construction.
The remaining carrying elements were made out of wood to emphasize the lightness of the building. A characteristic feature is the color “red”, which is being repeated in the whole building and thus is lending it its unmistakable character. The outdoor-area, which hitherto has not been used, has been re-designed into an event-area, where stands covered with bangkirai have been built for the public to enjoy concerts.
